Say what you will about Barry Bonds, but damn, he could hit. No matter how much you think the ‘roids and whatnot helped his performance, his 2001-2004 years were ridiculous. His pre-steroids career was pretty great, too.

Bonds has 7 seasons in the top 50, easily the most of any player (though Ted Williams might have as many if the data went back before 1950). Williams and Mickey Mantle have 4 each–all of them in the top 20. Wade Boggs has 3 seasons on the list, though none in the top 30. Todd Helton, Jason Giambi, Edgar Martinez, and Joe Morgan all have 2 seasons in the top 30; Jeff Bagwell makes the list twice, but both seasons are in the 40-50 range.
